Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said a pillar would be constructed in memory of Mahatma Gandhi in Patna to propagate the message of the Father of the Nation.

People will get to know about Gandhiji as they would climb up the pillar, Kumar said while addressing a seminar on “Champaran Agrarian Bill 1918”.

“People especially those belonging to the new generation should know about Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology and his works. There is a need to take Mahatma Gandhi’s message to everyone. The country and society will witness a change even if 10 to 15 per cent of youths are impacted by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and thoughts,” Kumar said.

The seminar was organised at the annexe building of Bihar Legislative Council here on the occasion of completion of centenary year of the passage of the Champaran Agrarian Bill which was passed on March 4, 1917.

Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik said Gandhi not only helped farmers in getting rid off a system obligatory indigo planting on a portion of a tenant’s holding on nominal compensation, but was also able to get rid of 46 types of taxes that had been slapped on people.
